Highest Entry at The B.S. Club show

I know that our officials were overjoyed with our members' achievements. Our club show set a further new record from last year with a total entry of 325 compared to the 1998 record of 274. In fact the Spangles were the highest entry in the show. There were also two firsts for our variety at this year's Club Show. As everyone is aware by now, it was a double for the Spangles.

Spangles - Best in Show, Best Any Age and Best Young Bird

We congratulate Frank Silva, our immediate past president, for his greatest
achievement by winning Best in Show, Best Any Age and Best Young Bird, all with Spangles. This is the first time that our variety has achieved any of the major honours at this show. Well done Frank, a well-deserved honour for a fancier who previously amassed eight Best in Shows during the show season, all with Spangles!

Double Factor to take Challenge Certificate

The second was a Double Factor spangle winning a Challenge Certificate (C.C.), again a first at the Club Show. This was achieved by Rod & Sue Clarke with a baby Double Factor Spangle Yellow cock. Rod & Sue hold another record; they were the first to win a C.C. with a Double Factor Spangle and that was at the 1992 Budgerigar World show, on that occasion the judge was the Association's chairman at the time; Ghalib Al-Nasser. Congratulations to all our members who did well at Doncaster.

Excellent entry of Spangles

Having had a very low entry in the Spangle Blue series last year (only 39), we did much better this year as the entry between the Spangle Green and Spangle Blue was about the same (163 & 162 respectively). Members must have read my report from last year and turned out in force. Vic Wills judged our variety and as Ghalib & I were also judges at the Club Show he informed us of the super quality that he had before him. During the weekend Ghalib teased Vic by calling him the Best B.S. Judge and it is a well-deserved title as both major winners were Spangles.

Spangle Green Series

Any Age

A top class Spangle Grey Green cock headed the Any Age C.C. line up for the novice Stuart Raven. This was a large power bird with plenty of width between the eyes and good deportment. Although it won the C.C. because of its power, unfortunately it had a bad eye when judged for best adult in show. This bird won Best in Show for Stuart at last year's National Exhibition. A stylish Spangle Light Green cock of good size and style from Bill & Christine Heale was the runner up. In third place and best opposite sex was Gerald Binks' Spangle Grey Green hen presented in outstanding condition and of good quality. Best Double Factor Green Series Spangle Any Age went to a Yellow hen benched by Don Williams.

Young Bird

A first for the Double Factors at the B.S. Club Show when Rod & Sue Clarke won the Young Bird C.C. with a Double Factor Spangle Yellow cock. This bird showed well, was of good deportment and colour for the variety and staged in perfect condition. Jeff Attwood had a powerful coarse feathered Spangle Light Green cock in second place. This bird had good Spangle spots and good head blow. Another super bird, third in the line up was a Spangle Grey Green cock of Paul & Nicki Stannard. Again a good solid bird with good head quality and Spangle spots but was light on the wing markings. Staig & Campell won the opposite sex award with a Spangle Grey Green hen.
