The spangle entry for our club show matched last year’s entry with 235 (236 last year) with 101 Spangle Greens and 134 Spangle Blues. The spangles as always fared well in the major and section awards with a win for the Spangle as Best Opposite Sex in Show and best beginner any age. The Association extends congratulations to all winners including those who also did well in their prospective sections with their spangles. Our overseas judge Bob Travnicek from the USA judged the Spangle Greens and Pat Norris judged the Spangle Blues.

The Freakley & Ainley partnership have done well with their spangles at the club show over the years and again this year when their Spangle Cinnamon Grey cock won the Best Spangle in Show award but as they are not SBBA members the honour for staging the Best Spangle in Show by a member went for the second consecutive year to Brian Wilson with his Spangle Skyblue cock. 

Once again winning members were treated to some wonderful newly designed certificates and the best spangle in show and four major winners also received special certificates enclosed in glass frames which added a further special touch to the awards. Our special thanks are extended to John Cosby for producing those wonderful certificates.

Once again we extend our thanks to John Cosby for manning our stand throughout the weekend; to Rod and Sue Clarke for dealing with our patronage and trophies, assisted by Cy Thorne; and to all other committee members for their assistance.

Our thanks and congratulations are extended to all our members who entered their spangles at the show and did well.

Spangle Green Series:   The adult CC and Best Spangle Green went to a well balanced Light Green cock benched in excellent condition by John Grubb. A quality Grey Green hen benched by Les Martin was in second place followed by Dean Jukes (beginner) Grey Green cock in third place.

Joe Stainforth topped the young bird section with a well balanced Grey Green cock of good quality. A big Grey Green hen from Paul & Nikki Stannard was second but did not show herself well while judging. Dean Jukes had to be content again with third place with his Double Factor Yellow cock of substance.

Spangle Blue Series:  Mick Freakley & Ian Ainley had a strong team to win first two places in the adult CC line up. A magnificent Cinnamon Grey cock captured the adult award with good width of head and feather quality. Their magnificent Yellowface Cinnamon Grey hen (last year’s Best Spangle in Show) was second and its quality pushed it to the overall Best Opposite Sex in Show award. Brian Wilson was third with his Skyblue cock which was placed Best Spangle in Show by a member. A bird of quality but was no match for the first two placed birds.

Geoff & Anne Moore won the young bird award with a good coloured well balance Cobalt cock. Brian Wilson was second with his good faced Skyblue cock followed by a Skyblue hen benched by Alec & Dave Woan in third place.
