SPANGLE WINNERS AT

The Budgerigar Society World Championship Show 2000

OUR Millennium Club Show, held in conjunction with the B.S. World Championship Show, took our Association to further heights.   For a second consecutive year our variety achieved the highest possible standard by winning the supreme award and again we set a further new high record when the total entry was 359 (224 and 135 respectively) exceeding last year's record entry of 325.

What a great achievement to see two Challenge Certificate (C.C.) winners from last year's show achieving the same honours again by winning their respective C.Cs.  But it was Stuart Raven's Spangle Grey Green cock's turn on this occasion to take the top honours by winning the Best Any Age in Show then taking the supreme award for Best in Show.  Our hearty congratulations to Stuart for his magnificent win.

The other C.C. winner to come back again and win was Frank Silva's Spangle Skyblue cock which was best young bird in show at last year's show.  The bird looked wonderful on the day but on this occasion Frank had to be content with winning the best intermediate any age with this bird.

The Double Factor Spangles figured high in the awards and it was very pleasing to see one of the 4 C.C.’s. go to a Double Factor as last year.  The Association extends warmest congratulations to all our members who did well at Doncaster.

Spangle Green Series:   Having suffered with a bad eye at the 1999 show and still winning the C.C. Stuart Raven's Spangle Grey Green cock came back in tip top condition to win the C.C. and capture 10 votes from the 17 judges to win the best any age award and then progressed to the supreme award. Apart from its power and good Spangle marking this bird was very steady and was a pleasure to view.  A smart Spangle Double Factor Yellow hen of Les & Pat Martin was in second place followed by a Spangle Grey Green cock from the husband and wife partnership, Fred & Joan Smith.  It was interesting to see that a novice, intermediate and beginner occupied the first 3 places in this C.C. line up.  George Jenkins was the lucky champion to be in fourth place with another Spangle Double Factor cock.

For a second year a Double Factor wins the young bird green C.C. and again a husband and wife partnership.  Paul & Nicki Stannard headed the C.C. line up with a Spangle Double Factor Yellow cock to be followed closely by a Spangle Grey Green cock belonging to another partnership; Bill & Christine Heale.  It was truly the husband and wife partnerships when R & J Birchall were third with a Spangle Light Green cock.  Dave Gillman's Spangle Opaline Light Green hen was fourth and best opposite sex young bird in the C.C. line up.

Spangle Blue Series:   It was amazing to see two birds battling it out as youngsters at last year's show just to come back again as adults and occupying the same spots.  Frank Silva's wonderful Spangle Skyblue cock (last year's best young bird in show) headed the any age C.C. and was staged in perfect condition.  This was followed closely by another wonderful bird from last year, the Spangle Double Factor White cock exhibited by Gren & Pat Norris.  Smith & Gage were third with a lovely Spangle Grey hen.

Stuart Raven had another C.C. to his credit in the spangles when his Spangle Opaline Blue hen headed the young bird C.C. line up.  A Spangle Blue hen of Paul & Nicki Stannard was placed second to be followed by yet another hen, a Spangle Double Factor White from Frank Silva, in third place.  The best opposite sex was a Spangle Opaline Grey cock of C & D Jones in 5^th place.
