Rare Variety & Colour BS - 2014 Club Show The Societys club show was, once again, held in conjunction with the Budgerigar Society Club Show in November and because of the new challenge certificate for the Clearbody group the total entry of the three groups showed a slight increase. Sue Clarke judged the Rare Variety section with an entry of 28 (28 in 2013), Michael Chapman judged the new Clearbody section with 36 entries and Dennis Cairns judged the Any Other Colour with 62 entries (66 in 2013). It was the third time that a team of Budgerigars of Colour (miniatures) were benched at the club show when Maurice Roberts entered a team of six.
Rare Variety
Sue Clarke judged this section of 28 and awarded the adult CC to that well known big Anthracite cock of Gren & Pat Norris staged in good condition and eventually went on to win Best Rare in Show for the third year running. An Opaline Slate stylish hen that stood well was placed second for Bob Allen followed by Roger Days Rainbow cock in third place. A quality Slate hen that showed well was awarded the young bird CC for Mick Widdowson & Brian Wilson which was also Best Rare Young Bird overall. Mick Anzara did well by occupying second place with an Opaline Slate hen of good condition followed by his Rainbow hen of good colour. It was good to see Tony Clegg, our past President & Secretary, showing his rares again. Clearbody The separation of the Clearbody from the Any Other Colour section in the classification paid dividends as the entry was 36 for Michael Chapman to judge. He awarded the any age certificate to Gren & Pat Norriss large Easley Clearbody Skyblue cock staged in good condition. Daniel Norman, junior, was second with a Texas Clearbody Violet cock which pushed hard for the CC but was let down by its condition. Another stylish Texas Clearbody Skyblue cock from David Turner was in third place. Richard Hooper headed the young bird section with a stylish Texas Clearbody Cobalt hen of good variety marking. Daniel Norman was second again with a Texas Clearbody Skyblue cock of good deportment and style. David Turner was third with a nice Texas Clearbody Grey cock. Any Other Colour Dennis Cairns judged this section of 62 birds and now only the Greywing & Lacewing come under our umbrella in this section. The Any Age Best of Colour winner was a large stylish Grey White hen benched by Shepherdson & Fisher not quite in condition. Another useful bird belongs to Frank & Carl McGovern was in second place. A quality Lacewing from Tom & Andrew Luke was in third place. Anthony Andrews headed the young bird section with a quality Suffused Yellow cock but let down by its condition.
